In a landmark announcement at the White House, a new initiative aimed at boosting entrepreneurship and economic growth across Latin America and the Caribbean has been unveiled. The Americas Partnership Investor Network, supported by the Uruguayan government, the U.S. National Security Advisor, USAID, Endeavor Miami, and IDB Lab, seeks to mobilize over $1 billion in capital to empower innovative entrepreneurs in the region.

The announcement marks a significant commitment to addressing the funding gaps that many Latin American founders face. With this initiative, stakeholders aim to strengthen the startup ecosystem, drive economic development, and enhance the region’s economic security. As U.S. National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan stated, “When President Biden held the inaugural Americas Partnership Leaders’ Summit, he committed to help entrepreneurs access the skills and investments they needed to succeed. Today, we delivered on the President’s commitment by launching the Americas Partnership Angel Investor Network, which will channel a billion dollars in private capital to uplift the next generation of entrepreneurs in Latin America and the Caribbean.”

The launch of this network represents a collaborative effort to make the Americas the most economically competitive region globally. The initiative will focus on fostering entrepreneurship, expanding digital economy training, advancing clean energy and decarbonization, and strengthening food security. These efforts are expected to not only drive innovation but also create jobs and enhance the region’s economic stability.

Uruguayan Foreign Minister Omar Paganini emphasized the importance of this collaboration, noting, “Our collaboration in this initiative through Uruguay Innovation Hub underscores our commitment to fostering entrepreneurship and economic development in Latin America. We believe this network will serve as a catalyst for startups to thrive and expand into international markets, including the U.S., thereby enhancing economic security and stability across the region.”

The Americas Partnership Investor Network is not just about providing financial resources; it is also about creating an environment conducive to innovation and growth. Claudia Duran, Regional Managing Director for North America and of Endeavor Miami, highlighted the transformative potential of the initiative: “The launch of the Americas Partnership Investor Network is a transformative step for Latin American entrepreneurs. By mobilizing anchor investment, this initiative is not only providing potential financial resources but also fostering an environment where innovation and economic growth can thrive.”

The initiative also emphasizes the importance of supporting deep tech, climate tech, and biotech startups, which are critical in addressing the region’s most pressing challenges. IDB Lab CEO Irene Arias noted, “It’s essential to work together to mobilize more early-stage investments in deep tech, climate tech, and biotech startups offering solutions to Latin America and the Caribbean’s biggest challenges.”

The launch event, which took place on July 17, featured prominent figures such as Jake Sullivan, USAID Administrator Samantha Power, Uruguayan Foreign Minister Omar Paganini, Canadian International Development Minister Ahmed Hussen, and IDB Lab CEO Irene Arias. The event underscored the collective commitment of the Americas Partnership to fostering innovation and economic growth in the region.

Julia Figueiredo, Director for LATAM and US Partners for Growth, expressed optimism about the initiative’s potential: “Partners for Growth has invested in Latin America for the past four years and remains impressed by the quality of the entrepreneurs in this region. We are committed to further investing in this region and forging strong collaborations with all Americas Partnership Investor Network stakeholders.”

As the Americas Partnership Investor Network embarks on this ambitious journey, it holds the promise of transforming the entrepreneurial landscape in Latin America and the Caribbean, offering a new era of opportunities and growth for the region’s innovators.
