From Law to Logistics: Vince Dobson’s Journey from Shopify to The Fulfillment Lab

By the FL Innovation News editorial team · Entrepreneurship

For Vince Dobson, every career move has been driven by curiosity and a desire to build something meaningful. The Canadian-born tech leader worked his way up at Shopify before finding his next chapter in Tampa with The Fulfillment Lab, a fast-growing player in ecommerce logistics.

Dobson’s path began in Ottawa, where he studied business law at Carleton University. Though he planned to become a lawyer, he was drawn more to technology, business, and people than legal theory. After earning his degree, he pursued postgraduate studies in market research and business intelligence, gaining experience in data-driven strategy and corporate partnerships.

He later moved into biotech, holding roles at Bayer, where he learned how technology can enhance customer relationships through CRM systems. His career took off when he joined Shopify, starting in an entry-level position and quickly moving up the ranks, becoming a Partner Manager. The experience gave him deep exposure to startups, enterprise clients, and the growing ecosystem around e-commerce.

“Partnerships combined everything I loved, from connecting people to driving growth,” Dobson said.

After several years working with startups in Canada, New York, Europe and exploring roles in manufacturing and ERP software, Dobson met Rick Nelson, founder and CEO of The Fulfillment Lab. Their shared entrepreneurial mindset made for an instant connection.

“Rick was looking for someone to help lead partnerships and growth,” Dobson said. “Everything he needed aligned with what I love doing.”

Now leading strategic growth and partnerships, Dobson is focused on expanding The Fulfillment Lab’s presence within the e-commerce ecosystem and positioning it as a technology-driven leader in fulfillment.

“They have built an incredible foundation,” he said. “Now the focus is on strengthening the brand and reaching more customers. E-commerce saw unprecedented growth during Covid, and strong growth is expected over the next decade. The Fulfillment Lab is well-positioned to meet that demand.”

Dobson sees the company as one of Florida’s emerging leaders in e-commerce logistics, with the potential to take center stage in Tampa’s growing tech scene.

“This role is about leading, growing, and making an impact,” he said. “Rick and I share a vision of building not only a successful company but a culture that values innovation and long-term growth.”

With Tampa continuing to attract tech talent and investment, Dobson’s arrival signals a new phase for The Fulfillment Lab, one defined by innovation, collaboration, and the rise of Florida as a force in digital commerce.
