When Dr. Reinerio Linares began his medical career in Colombia, he never imagined his understanding of oxygen would one day extend far beyond the human body. But nearly three decades after establishing a pulmonary and sleep medicine practice in Tampa, he’s now at the helm of a startup aiming to help heal the planet.
Dr. Linares is the co-founder of HyOx, a Tampa-based environmental tech company that uses patent-pending oxygen signal modulation to boost the performance of water, soil, and fuel. Think: water that detoxifies polluted land, restores ecosystems, and even helps crops grow stronger, all without chemicals.
“If oxygen is powerful enough to keep people alive, it’s powerful enough to bring ecosystems back to life too,” says Linares. “We’re simply applying biology’s most fundamental element in a new way.”
The Science Behind the Startup
HyOx’s proprietary process, called Code Zero Transduction, encodes water with signals that enhance its oxygen and hydrogen content. The result is a highly functional liquid that can improve hydration, accelerate environmental detox, and reduce waste in industrial settings.
The company’s products span several verticals:
- SuperWater HyOx, designed for human and animal hydration
- TerreOrganics, a soil treatment for bioremediation and crop health
- Oxygen-enriched modules for landfill and wastewater treatment
And it’s not just theoretical. In early pilots, HyOx’s solutions have shown measurable improvements in plant vitality, reduced sludge and odor in industrial systems, and even helped cut irrigation needs by up to 80%.
A Global, Grassroots Operation
HyOx is headquartered in Tampa, but its research and development hub sits in Cali, Colombia, Dr. Linares’s hometown. There, a team of civil engineers, environmental scientists, and chemical technicians are working to scale the platform globally. The company is exploring applications in agriculture, food production, and even clean fuels, including green hydrogen.
For Dr. Linares, the journey from ICU to innovation lab was a natural evolution.
“I’ve always been focused on breathing,” he says. “Now we’re helping the Earth breathe better too.”
