The Bright Future of Health Care — Why People Are Switching to Medical Concierge Doctors

Written by Dr. Kelly Baez, DPT, PT and owner of Brisa Wellness Tampa Bay Physical Therapy

Let’s take a moment to reflect on the traditional healthcare system by recalling the last time you were sick and in pain. Instead of resting and staying at home, you had to get up and travel to the doctor’s office. Even with an appointment, you likely spent a significant amount of time in the lobby, waiting because the doctor was juggling multiple patients simultaneously. Eventually, you were moved to a patient room, only to wait a little longer. Did we mention you’re in pain? Finally, the doctor rushed in, quickly determined your treatment plan, and then hurried off to the next patient.

This traditional healthcare model no longer meets the needs and expectations of today’s patients. Rather than accept it as the norm, some doctors, like myself, have reimagined our medical practices through concierge care. My name is Dr. Kelly Baez, and I’m the Owner and Doctor of Physical Therapy at Brisa Wellness in Tampa Bay. Here are the top four reasons why people are switching to this modernized form of healthcare:

1. Time is Money

The Sun Sentinel newspaper recently reported that primary care doctors tend to allocate 15 minutes with each patient. They noted that it can take weeks, even months, for an existing patient to get a doctor’s appointment and much longer for new patients. Instead of making you wait, concierge care values your time as a precious commodity.

At Brisa Wellness, you can set up weekly physical therapy appointments if you prefer a consistent routine, or you can schedule an impromptu session with our same-day or next-day availability. This level of service is particularly appealing to busy professionals and families. By reducing barriers to care, we make it easier for you to maintain your health without sacrificing other aspects of your life.

2. Meet You Where You’re At

One of the greatest advantages of concierge care is its flexibility in meeting you where you’re most comfortable — whether virtually or in person. With virtual telehealth, appointments are made accessible to anyone in the world, at any time, such as a wellness or medical consult which helps establish your symptoms and the recommendations of the specialist or physician. You can be on vacation and decide to do a check-in with us!

While Dr. Kelly Baez’s license is restricted to Florida rules and regulations, she is able to treat patients who live out-of-state or out of the country.  At Brisa Wellness, we prefer to regularly meet our patients at their home, office, or gym for physical therapy sessions; if they are unable to provide a place to meet one is provided at a local gym nearby Dr. Kelly Baez. However, it is good to attempt treatment in familiar surroundings as this can make a significant difference in your comfort level and overall healing process.

3. Personalizing the Care Experience: Quality vs Quantity

In traditional healthcare settings, physicians are often overwhelmed with large patient loads, leading to rushed appointments and generalized care. Doctors become frustrated, too. They want to get to know their patients and practice preventive care not reactive care.

Concierge care allows for more one-on-one time with your doctor, ensuring that your health concerns are thoroughly addressed. This personalized approach is proactive, as potential health issues can be identified early and managed before they escalate, leading to better overall health outcomes.

4. Holistic Health and Wellness

Rather than focusing solely on treating symptoms, concierge physicians work with you to understand your overall health goals and lifestyle. At Brisa, I recognize that physical therapy is just one piece of the puzzle. That’s why I integrate additional services such as physical training, massage therapy, and specific techniques that help with alignment (muscle energy techniques and mobilizations) to provide a more holistic approach. Additionally, Brisa has a trusted network of partners, including registered dietitians, chiropractors, PCPs, licensed mental health therapists, and many more which help you connect all the dots of your health journey.

As healthcare continues to evolve, concierge doctors are becoming an increasingly popular option for those seeking a more personalized, holistic, and proactive approach. If you’d like to learn more about medical concierge care and physical therapy, follow me on Instagram @brisawellness.co. Salud!
